Wildlife abounds in wetlands! Plants and animals that use wetlands are everywhere, and they may live in wetland areas, or they may use wetlands only part of the year. Either way, wetlands are valuable habitats and food sources for a huge variety of flora and fauna. Some wetland plants may be only found in this type of habitat while others may live in many different areas. Plants that thrive in water are known as hydrophytes (water-loving), which are usually types of mosses and grasses. But not all wetland plants belong in this category. Some wetlands have dry periods throughout the year, and these wetlands are able to support tree species as well.
