Freshwater wetlands, also known as inland wetlands, are common where we live in southwest Missouri. They are common in lots of areas of the world. You probably have them where you live, too. Remember, wetlands are simply areas of land that are saturated with water and have water standing on them at least part of the year. They are usually charged by groundwater of some type or may be filled with rainwater or water from a lake or river overflowing. Saltwater wetlands occur as well, and these are found along the coasts near the sea.
